A Usefullness of the FAST in Asthmatic Children

Abstract

|
With a increasing incidence of a asthma in children, it is emphasized that the tests for detection of specific allergen are important. This study was designed to investigate the usefullness of FAST, one of the test for detection of specific allergens in asthmatic children. Skin test, RAST, MAST and other study for detection of specific allergen have been well documented.
We performed the study to evaluate the usefullness of FAST. Thirty five children attending Chungnam National University Hospital Pediatric Department were included and divided into two group, as asthma(tweenty five) and nonasthma groups (ten). FAST, MAST and skin prick test were performed each group. Eight allergen, as Reygrass, Mugwort, Birch, Cat, D. pteronyssinus, D. farinae, Egg, Cockroach, were used in this study
The positive results of asthma group among each test are not significantly different. The sensitivities and specificities of MAST and FAST were similar in asthma group. Also, the positive and negative predictive values of MAST and FAST were similar in asthma group.
FAST is useful for detection of specific allergen in children suspected allergic disease, especially in allergic asthma.
